Location and Layout

Kearns lies on the western side of the Salt Lake Valley and borders West Valley City to the north and west, Taylorsville to the east, and West Jordan to the south. The city covers 4.63 square miles, all land, and sits on a natural formation called the Kearns-Benion hill, which rises approximately 100 feet above the valley. 1

Kearns began as a World War II Army Air Base in 1942, and after the base was deactivated in August 1946, the presence of roads and infrastructure made the area attractive to developers.
